Brain Cancer— Vaccine shows promise
US researchers have achieved 100% protection against brain cancer in an animal study using an experimental vaccine.

The study at the University of California's Jonsson Cancer Center found that control animals which did not receive the vaccine developed very aggressive brain tumours.

Research team leader Dr Linda Liau said the next step is to use the vaccine as a possible treatment for such tumours.

While the vaccine research shows promise, it will be several years before human testing begins, Dr Liau said.

She is optimistic that targeted approaches to treating brain cancer holds the key to improving survival and enhancing quality of life in patients.
