Community and Council to discuss golf course future

The on-going issue of fencing the St Lucia Golf Course and the future of Sandy Creek will be discussed at a public meeting at Indooroopilly on Sunday November 7.

Local residents and golfers will have the opportunity to meet with the St Lucia Golf Precinct Community Working Group and Walter Taylor councillor Jane Prentice onsite at a marquee on the corner of Indooroopilly Road and Carawa Street, Indooroopilly.

A number of issues involving the golf course have been raised in the local area, including the golf course fence, and also a proposed bikeway to the University of Queensland and possible golf course layout modifications.

The long-term environmental sustainability of Sandy Creek and the surrounding catchment is up for discussion with Council seeking input on ways to best manage the waterway.

Representatives from the Brisbane City Council will be on site from 1pm until 5pm to answer questions and take on board all suggestions in planning for the future of the precinct.

As part of the process, Council representatives have begun door-knocking local residents ahead of the meeting with information on preliminary proposals for the precinct.

“Council is currently undertaking an extended phase of consulting and listening to local residents’ concerns over these sensitive issues,” Cr Prentice said.

“I am working with Council and residents to ensure public access is maintained to the golf course and the quality of life people in Walter Taylor currently enjoy is maintained – if not improved.”

Residents wishing to have their say, but unable to attend the meeting, can still do so by contacting the Brisbane City Council Call Centre on 3403 8888, or by contacting the Walter Taylor ward office.

“Comments on the preliminary proposals can be made by residents at any time up until Friday 20 November by visiting my office at Indooroopilly,” Cr Prentice said.

“I would encourage all residents to take an interest and participate in this project, which will shape the future of the golf course precinct.”

Ends.
