Chemical explosion Melbourne
What should happen if the IMB chemical laboratory complex built in the midst of our busy campus and established residential precinct at St Lucia, should similarly erupt? What precautions are in place to stem the escape of toxic viruses and emissions from the IMB building by the University of Queensland?

Are we talking about the evacuation of a 1Km, a 10Km radius or perhaps the evacuation of the city of Brisbane in the event of a catastrophic incident, possible at the proposed facility?

Our community has been seeking an Emergency Management Plan In our some 4,000 submissions to the Community Liaison Committee, we have revealed a host of nightmare scenarios emanating from the IMB building.
If just one of these "mishaps" or "emissions" should occur, the consequences don't bear thinking about!
But think about them we must, for we are living under the cloud of a ticking time bomb!

| A CHEMICAL tank containing at least 8000 litres of hydrochloric acid exploded at a factory in Melbourne's west on Nov. 14. The explosion blew the fibreglass tank up to 20 metres into the air and 30 metres distant. It was believed it could have been caused by a reaction between two or more chemicals. Authorities said that exposure to HCL could cause severe burning and respiratory irritation.
