Welcome |
"Irony" application now advertised
If ever there was a project that necessitates some community action, this is it for Indooroopilly East... at least it is, if any serious attempt to "protect" the "character" of this precinct is desired and sought!

This precinct is now subject to at least 5 or 6 applications to remove "character houses"... the "Smiths" house has already gone ... which next? Those in Railway Avenue or those in Lambert Road?

The best solution is to allow commercial returns from IRONY and its neighbour in Lambert Road, the delightful little workers cottage Let's encourage if not require their conservation and "protect" the local character if not heritage. Why have character protection … if it doesn't protect character precincts such as these?
The example of the run-down house in West End (photo below) ... now a splendid icon ... shows what can and will be done ... But only if we act now.
Let's not tolerate a 3-storey block of units on this important and historical intersection!

| This wonderful residence had seen better times when this photo was taken. It looked as if, despite its qualities, it was not going to be looked after. A close look at the photo shows windows hanging loose, gutters in a mess, broken downpipes, loose roof tiles and a most untidy yard … all the indicators of an "unloved" house ready for demolition or the increasingly notorious "midnight trip on the back of the trucks". |

| The good news is however that it has been rescued and to some eyes, restored. At least it now looks as if it belongs and is loved. |

| If you are in the West End area, it's on Vulture Street near the intersection with Merivale Street. Well worth a look! |
