Opening of a new $381,000 Teaching Block and Courtyard at BROOKFIELD STATE SCHOOL

Michael Johnson MP, Federal Member for Ryan, officially opened the new teaching block today at Brookfield State School.

A $381 000 Capital works Federal Government grant has provided Brookfield State School students and school community with a new teaching block with two classrooms and courtyard.

"These outstanding facilities will help ensure all students at Brookfield State School are encouraged to realise their potential and attain their goals."

Michael Johnson officially opened the new facilities on behalf of the Commonwealth Minister for Education, Science and Training, the Hon Dr Brendan Nelson MP.

Mr Johnson said the project demonstrated the Commonwealth Government's commitment to providing every student with the best possible learning environment through the provision of these new facilities.

"The Commonwealth Government is committed to ensuring every student receives a quality school education," Mr Johnson said. "For 2003 the Commonwealth Government is committed to providing $6.5 billion for schooling, an increase of $475 million or 7.9% over the previous year. This funding includes over $322 million for capital projects in Australian schools."

Over 2001-2004, Commonwealth spending on government schools will increase by over $1.97 billion above the previous four year funding period.
