JOHNSON HOSTS RYAN'S OWN AUSTRALIA DAY CEREMONY

Michael Johnson MP, Federal Member for Ryan, along with both the Rotary Club of Sumner Park and the Centenary and Districts Chamber of Commerce, hosted a special Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony to welcome Ryan's newest Australian Citizens.

The ceremony welcomed 59 Australian Citizens and took place on the Brisbane River at the Jindalee Boat Ramp, Jindalee.

"It's both an important privilege and responsibility to take up Australian Citizenship and I think its made all the more special by taking part in a local ceremony on Australia's National Day," Mr Johnson said.

"For each candidate today, their choice to become an Australian citizen is a very important expression of their pride in being part of Australia's dynamic and diverse society. "

The citizenship ceremony was followed by an affirmation ceremony, inviting Australians to affirm their loyalty to Australia and welcome new citizens into the community.

This year nearly 8400 candidates for citizenship took the citizenship pledge as part of the Australia Day celebrations at ceremonies across the nation.

"I hope we always remain a nation of individuals with different backgrounds, holding different views, and from different cultures- all united in our pride at being Australian and all working together for Australia's future," Mr Johnson said.
