FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CONTRIBUTES
$3 000 TOWARDS A NEW MEMORIAL WALL
AT BRISBANE BOYS COLLEGE
The Brisbane Boys College will construct a memorial wall to honour 87 former students of the college who died in World War II, with the help of a $3 000 grant under the Federal Government's commemorations program, Saluting Their Service, Michael Johnson, Federal Member for Ryan, said today.
Late last week, Mr Johnson formally presented the school with a cheque for $3 000 at a special morning assembly.
"Saluting Their Service encourages the community to remember and honour the contribution made by Australians who have served in wars, conflicts, and peace operations since Federation," Mr Johnson said.
"The College will use the $3 000 Saluting Their Service grant to construct a special memorial wall that will include photographs and information relation to each of the 87 former students, to create a permanent honour wall display."
"This project will provide a very fitting tribute to those former students of the college who gave their lives in the defence of this nation's freedom.
"The College and in particular the Principal, Mr Graeme McDonald, and members of the Volunteer Archive Committee, are commended for their initiative on this project. I would like to acknowledge the work of Chairman of the Volunteer Archive Committee, Mr Bruce Slaughter and hard working members; Dr Alex Foxton, Mr Bob Esler, Mr Keith Duncombe, Mr Chippy Morgan and Mr Arthur Virtue," Mr Johnson said.
Michael presents a $3 000 cheque to Chairman of the Volunteer Archive Committee at BBC, Mr Bruce Slaughter and Principal, Mr Graeme McDonald.
