NEW WORK FOR THE DOLE PROJECTS IN RYAN
Four new Work for the Dole projects will provide nearly 30 local participants with valuable work experience opportunities in Ryan, Mr Michael Johnson, Federal Member for Ryan, announced today.
"These projects will give 30 unemployed people the chance to learn new skills or upgrade their old skills. And that can only boost their chances of gaining paid work with the extra credentials they have to offer potential employers," Michael Johnson said.
"The great thing about the Work for the Dole programme is that participants aren't the only people who benefit. The local community also benefits. In Ryan the Work for the Dole projects vary from landscaping to cleanup and revegetation of local creeks as well as providing much needed computer and database training for participants".
"The new projects also show how diverse Work for the Dole opportunities are.
The four projects include; The Waterways Project, involving the cleanup and revegetation of Enoggera Creek at The Gap; Buildit, involving the design of databases, analysing and reporting at Toowong; North Brisbane Retail Skills, hands on experience and training in the retail sector at Taringa; and Churches of Christ Support involving the landscaping and revegetation of Moggill Creek catchment at Kenmore.
Mr Johnson said the success of Work for the Dole projects both in Ryan and across Australia is testimony to the creative input and support of local communities.
"I strongly encourage all community organisations in Ryan to consider taking part," he said.
"The Government is firmly committed to Work for the Dole. It shows real partnerships between community groups who sponsor activities, participants and the community. That's why it's a success," Mr Johnson said.
