Local community celebrates Australian National Flag Day!
Federal MP, Michael Johnson helped celebrate Australian National Flag Day today, by encouraging local kids at the Chapel Hill Pre-School, Chapel Hill to learn more about their national flag.
"It is important that we encourage our children to recognise the special importance of our national flag," Mr Johnson said.
"Australian National Flag Day commemorates the first time our flag was flown and provides an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on how the flag unites our diverse nation."
"The Australian National Flag shows our affiliation, loyalty and pride in our country. It has accompanied Australians to war and gone with them as peacekeepers. It is known around the world as the flag of a proud and independent nation, a compassionate friend and a worthy competitor on the sporting field."
Mr Johnson is a member of the National Australia Flag Association Council which aims to promote and preserve the Australian Flag as a national symbol.
"It is important to recognise and respect our national symbols. For more than a century, our national flag has been a powerful focus for national pride," Mr Johnson said.
