HOW TO VOTE
FOR A CLEANER AUSTRALIA
The 30 million How to Vote cards handed out each Federal Election day will now be recycled, Federal Member for Ryan, Michael Johnson, said today.
"On Election day, many people commented to me on why How to Vote cards weren't being recycled? I am pleased to announce that we have listened to the people of Ryan and I am a keen supporter of the Government's recycling initiative," Mr Johnson said.
The Special Minister of State made the announcement and said that, because of the input of people like Michael Johnson, recycling of party political How to Vote cards at polling places would be undertaken from the next Federal election.
"This initiative signals a strong vote for the environment and adds to the Howard Government's growing reputation of practical environmentalism," Mr Johnson said.
There are approximately 30 million How to Vote cards printed and distributed at each Federal election. This initiative will greatly increase the amount of paper that is recycled following an election.
"It is important that we identify practical measures wherever we can that will help our environment," Michael Johnson said.
