AUSTRALIA’S LEADING UNIVERSITY TEACHERS
AT UQ
A University of Queensland academic has taken out the nation’s most prestigious university teaching prize, at a ceremony at Parliament House this week.
Professor Ian Cameron from the University of Queensland was awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for University Teacher of the Year. He also won a Teaching Award in the category of Physical Sciences and Related Studies and so received a grant of $75,000 to continue valued work in his field.
Dr Judith Murray, also from the University of Queensland, took out the national teaching award for Biological Sciences, Health and Related Studies.
“This is a great achievement and I'd like to warmly congratulate both Prof Cameron and Dr Judith Murray on their outstanding efforts,” Michael Johnson, Federal Member for Ryan said today.
“Professor Cameron is a credit to our local university and this award rightly recognises his outstanding contribution to university teaching”, said Mr Johnson.
The Awards were established in 1997 to celebrate the excellence of, and raise the status of, Australian university teaching. Winners in the Teaching Award categories received a grant of $40,000 each. Institutional Award winners received $50,000 each.
The annual Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT), with a total grant pool this year of $605,000, provides a demonstration of Australia’s rich and diverse academic talents.
