RYAN AWARDS SAY "THANK YOU" TO LOCAL VOLUNTEERS

Local Federal Member for Ryan, Michael Johnson, has today recognised 31 special local residents for their outstanding community service with a 2003 Ryan Recognition Award and 2003 Ryan Youth Recognition Award.

"I am delighted to say "thank you" on behalf of the local community to these people who have devoted their time to helping others and building a stronger community in so many different ways," Mr Johnson said.

"They never seek recognition, but have been nominated by grateful local residents who value their hard work. These are the people who give our community its "heart and soul" and it's a great honour for me to be able to recognise them in this small way."

"I established these awards when I was elected because I strongly believe we need to recognise and support our voluntary workers. They are a shining example for all of us - and we need to encourage community service, especially in our young people," Mr Johnson said.

Mr Johnson thanked the many local residents who had taken the time to nominate someone special for the awards. Nominations for next years awards are available now by calling (07) 3720 2599 and can be made at any time over the next 11 months.
