Funding Delivered For Local Environment

Projects Volunteers and the environment are the big winners of $87,189 in Australian Government funding for conservation projects in Ryan.

Federal Member for Ryan, Michael Johnson today welcomed the local funding which was a part of $8.4 million invested from the Australian Government’s Envirofund in 684 projects Australia-wide.

“The projects in Ryan that are being funded through the latest round of the Australian Government Envirofund include the Pullen-Moggill-Anstead Revegetation Project run by the Pullen Pullen Catchment Group and the Bringing Back Birds & Butterflies to Moggill Creek and Hunting Park Project organised by the Moggill Creek Catchment Management Group Inc.,” Mr Johnson said.

“The Envirofund is all about harnessing the local knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm of community groups like the Pullen Pullen Catchment Group and the Moggill Creek Catchment Management Group to help our local environment.”

The Envirofund is the community component of the Australian Government’s $3 billion Natural Heritage Trust and is the largest environmental rescue effort ever delivered by any Australian Government.

“More money is being made available through the next round to help local community groups take important practical action to protect our land, waterways, coasts and threatened plants and animals,” Mr Johnson said.

Applications for Round 6 of the Envirofund close at 5pm on Friday 18 February 2005. Community groups and individuals will have another opportunity to apply for funding from the Envirofund later next year.

“I encourage community groups and individuals in Ryan to apply for funding from Envirofund to help them undertake valuable projects to restore and conserve our local environment,” Mr Johnson said.
