Tjapukai by Night

TJAPUKAI

Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park in Cairns has introduced special "Tjapukai by Night" evenings three times a week.

The new show, which runs for about four hours from 7pm, is scripted by Tjapukai founders Don and Judy Freeman, and includes dinner.

Arranged so the audience takes part in a one-of-a-kind cultural celebration, "Tjapukai by Night" packages include transfers to and from accommodation, a stunning new theatrical welcome performance and a lakeside ceremony of Fire and Water - a new interactive show featuring tap-sticks for each guest, a join-in corroboree and fire display.

Guests then move to the Boomerang Restaurant overlooking Caravonica Lakes for a buffet dinner and Tjapukai's internationally acclaimed dance show.

The package costs $92, and is available on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday nights.

If you choose to visit Tjapukai during the day, allow at least three hours to see and experience everything. You'll leave with a new insight into the culture and history of the traditional people of the Kuranda region.

In the Creation Theatre, actors interact with spectacular special effects and holograms to illustrate legends, and in the Magic Space a 20-minute film relates the history of the Tjapukai people since the coming of white settlers 120 years ago.
