CHRIS NIXON As an automotive journalist and
publicist, driving is naturally one of Chris Nixon's greatest
passions and so he claims to have close knowledge of the streets
in the Indooroopilly district. On these he has driven over the
past 17 years in literally hundreds of the latest model cars. Yet
still some neighbours remain puzzled about the occupation of the
man who has a different new car in his driveway every
week! ~ Chris's 38-year career in
journalism has taken many paths, but rarely been far from a
life-long love of cars. Formerly motoring editor of The
Courier-Mail, he contributes now to a diverse range of
publications and is an occasional specialist commentator on
Brisbane radio. He also specialises in motorsport publicity,
having been media manager for the Gold Coast Indy, the official
"works" Volvo racing team and currently a range of
national championships and major events staged by PROCAR
Australia. ~ Chris is a founding
member of the Queensland Motoring Writers Guild and former
Queensland Motoring Writer of the Year. |

The motor industry employs the ultimate in
technology to produce something that most of us need and that has
the power to stir emotions. In this Issue there's something
of each. If you're in the market for a new car soon, read
about the teaser news on the forthcoming Ford Falcon. The
dreamers can come for a ride in the latest Maserati.

HOW
LONG can one of the prettiest stretches of road in Brisbane
continue to carry a volume of traffic for which it was never
designed?
Radnor Street winds for a few hundred metres along the river bank
from the Indooroopilly Bridge. It's very narrow with blind
corners and should not be the busy thoroughfare it has become. In
the morning peak hour, traffic often queues from Coonan Street
back to the Boulvevard function centre.
There's not another piece of road in Brisbane like Radnor
Street. I'd like to see the council send traffic down the
main thoroughfares instead.
And while they're at it, clean up the appalling mess of
weeds and undergrowth along the bank, so that those who do drive
- or walk - along the street may enjoy the view of a magnificent
sweep of river.
